Claim Your Beef Share by Friday Night, 2 Chances to Win Prime Rib
We’re finally starting to get this fall work under control.
The weather’s been warmer than usual, which has been a real blessing. Why don’t you have some “ice cream” with the cows this week and sit for a minute?
What is Happening at the Ranch
From a cow’s point of view, some things taste like ice cream, and some like green beans.
The cows thought they’d found the ice cream parlour this week, and they were right. We turned them into that alfalfa field, and did they ever eat!
But as any rancher knows, you can’t let them stay too long. We always try to leave at least 4 inches of grass, or in this case, alfalfa, behind when we move cattle off a pasture. Going into winter, that extra cover protects the crowns of the alfalfa from the cold.
If it’s grazed too short and the wind hits bare crowns in sub-zero temps without snow cover, alfalfa can winter-kill.
So, we moved the herd across the road, and I started winding up the electric line on that half section of alfalfa. I’d rolled up one side when I looked up and saw the yard lights by the shop flicker on. That was a good sign it was time to quit, riding the 4-wheeler gets chilly this time of year, and I was over a mile from the house.
I set my reel down, turned around, and almost stepped on a skunk. It was stretched out in the alfalfa, licking something off its back like it was sunbathing. I did the quickest side-step you ever saw and took off for the 4-wheeler, not about to spend the next two days smelling like a skunk.
The next morning, I finished rolling up my line, got to town smelling just fine, and I’ll call that a win.

Ranch Work Ahead
We’re getting ready to wean steers next week.
The 20 heifers we’re keeping for replacements will stay on their mothers until mid-January. We like them to have a snowstorm or two out grazing under their belt before we wean them.
That brings us to bulk beef shares.
The calves we’re selling will go to town on November 13th. Which means I need to know now who wants to reserve beef for next summer so we can set aside the right number of steers before they’re gone.
Once the trailer pulls out, that’s it for this season’s shares.
Prime Rib Giveaway — Two Chances to Win!
This Friday night, we’ll draw for the first Prime Rib.
Anyone who’s placed a deposit on a beef share, from a 25 lb Taste the Difference share to a Whole Beef, is automatically entered. Your name will be entered for both drawings.
If you haven’t reserved your share yet, there’s still time to join in before Friday night and ensure your family’s beef is secured for 2026.

Feeding Montana Veterans
We already have 15 families who’ve placed their deposits and are helping us feed veterans through the Montana Veterans Meat Locker.
That campaign closes Sunday night, so we can get the ground beef ready to deliver on Veterans Day.
If you’d like to help out, there are two ways:
- 1. Secure a beef share for your family, and we’ll donate 5 lbs in your name.
- 2. Purchase 5 lbs for the Veterans Meat Locker, and we’ll match it, 10 lbs donated in your name.
Yes, I want to salute our Veterans
Why It Matters
From pasture to plate, this is a two-year journey. Every steak starts with a calf born here, grazing Montana grasslands, cared for every single day until it’s ready to feed families like yours.
It’s a long process, but it’s worth it. Because when you sit down to a T Bar J steak, you’re not just eating dinner. You’re tasting a way of life that’s been going strong for over a century.
P.S. Your name stays in for both Prime Rib drawings, so if you claim your beef share before Friday night, you’ve got two chances to win one of these beauties. And every share helps feed Montana veterans this Veterans Day, and that’s something to be proud of.

In honor of those who served —
Feeding Montana veterans with every beef share.
