What Are You Really Buying?

What Are You Really Buying?

Imagine it's a cold Tuesday evening in January.

It's been a long day.

Everyone is hungry.

And instead of wondering what you're going to make for supper—or making another trip to the grocery store—you walk to the freezer.

There it is.

Ground beef. Roasts. Steaks.

Supper isn't another problem you have to solve.

You already took care of it months ago.

That's one of the things I like most about buying beef by the share.

You're not buying dinner for tonight.

You're taking care of dinner for months.

Something is reassuring about opening a freezer like that.

The food is there.

You know where it came from.

And on one of those days when you've already made enough decisions, what's for dinner doesn't have to be another one.

I've talked to quite a few people about beef this past week.

Some were ready to reserve a share.

Some were just beginning to think about it.

And some had a lot of questions...

How much freezer space will I need?

What cuts will I get?

How is the beef packaged?

How much beef is really in a 1/8 or a 1/4?

They're good questions.

Because buying several months' worth of beef at one time is different from putting a couple of packages in your grocery cart.

And eventually, most of those questions come down to one bigger one:

Is it worth it?

I think that's a fair question.

And maybe the best way to answer it is with another one: What are you really buying?

Yes, you're buying steaks, roasts, and ground beef.

But you're also buying Tuesday night's supper.

The hamburgers you'll pull out when company shows up.

The roast you'll put in the slow cooker before a busy day.

The steak you'll grill because an ordinary Wednesday deserves a good supper.

You're buying fewer last-minute trips to the grocery store.

And you're buying that good feeling that comes from knowing you've already taken care of something important for your family.

The beef is in the freezer. Dinner is handled.

But there's another part of the value that's harder to put a price on.

You know where your beef came from.

You know your rancher.

You know where the cattle were raised.

You know the family that cared for them from the day they were born.

The calving.

The pasture moves.

The water checks.

The weaning.

The hay and feeding.

All the way through harvest.

We know where your beef has been because we've been there with it.

And when you pull a package of T Bar J beef from your freezer this winter, you don't have to wonder.

So how much beef does your family need?

You don't have to start with a huge freezer full.

Our 1/8 beef is approximately 45 pounds of packaged beef.

For a couple or smaller household eating beef about twice a week, that's roughly six months of beef.

Want to put away more?

Our 1/4 beef is approximately 90 pounds and gives you twice that amount to work with.

And for larger families—or families who simply want to take care of more meals at one time—we offer 1/2 and whole beef shares, too.

You don't need to buy more than makes sense for your family.

Start with the share that fits your household, your freezer, and the way you eat.

Not sure which one is right for you?

Email me and tell me how many people you're feeding and how often you eat beef.

I'll help you figure out what makes sense for you.

And if now isn't the right time, that's okay too. I'd rather help you make the right decision for your family than talk you into more beef than you need.

And your beef share does a little more.

Every time a family reserves a T Bar J beef share, 5 pounds of our ground beef goes to the Montana Veterans Meat Locker in their name.

We call it Montana 5 for Those Who Served.

You fill your family's freezer with beef from a rancher you know.

And together, we help put Montana beef on the table for a veteran and their family.

It's a small way your decision to buy directly from our ranch reaches beyond your own freezer.

And it's something Al and I are very proud to do alongside our customers.

Fall beef is ready to start moving.

After Labor Day, we'll start sending T Bar J beef from our freezer to freezers around the country.

If you've been thinking about filling your freezer for the months ahead, now is a good time to reserve your share.

P.S. Colorado friends: The Pig Parade is headed your way Thursday. We're delivering pork shares, and if you've been thinking about T Bar J beef, we may be able to bring some along for you, too. Email me, and I'll see what we can do.
