Cows Belly-deep in Grass, Freezers Full, and a New Surprise
Sometimes it’s hard to believe it’s nearly July when the furnace kicks on at night. We had rain, cold, and even winter storm warnings in the mountains this week — and now, our peaks are frosted white like cake icing.
But even with Mother Nature’s surprises, we kept busy!
Better get something to drink, and sit a minute so we can visit.
Life on the Ranch
Colorado Beef Run — 4,400 lbs of Good Eating
This week, we loaded 11 steers worth of beef, over 2 tons of steak, roasts, and ground beef, and delivered it to 26 families in Colorado.
It’s always fun to see folks stock up. Jim and Jayme's garage turned into beef central for the day!
We finished the next day with our Buena Vista beef pickup — 10 chest freezers on our flatbed trailer, with families pulling up, loading their beef, and sharing a few laughs.
That’s what it’s all about — good food and great people.

Cattle on New Grass
Before we hit the road, we moved our cows and calves to fresh pasture. To keep them busy while we were gone.
Our grass is taller than we’ve ever seen — belly-deep on the cows!
We try not to let them stay longer than 3 weeks in a pasture so they don’t graze the same plant twice. It helps the grass grow stronger and keeps our pastures healthy. We won’t see that pasture again for a year — that’s how we take care of the land that takes care of us.
Pig Parade + A Tasty Surprise
The pig parade is getting underway! Our 4-H fair is in mid-July. So, time is getting close to speak up for bacon, pork chops, and ham steaks. Remember, we use an organic cure on our pork.
