Mud On My Jeans & Beef For The Soul

Mud On My Jeans & Beef For The Soul

Get out your mud boots, hats, gloves and a warm coat.  We have officially moved to Fanter.  Whether you are a fan of winter or not, it's coming!

It snowed Sunday night and has rained ever since.

By Monday, I couldn’t get down the lane without collecting half of Montana on my jeans.

Here’s proof: me, a muddy pickup, and a box of beef ready for delivery.

Ranch life doesn’t wait for the weather to cooperate, and neither do we.

The geese are gathering in the pasture east of the house, resting by the creek during the day before heading south under the cover of night.

It’s their fall migration ritual, and ours seems to be hauling beef, handing out honey, and keeping freezers full before winter sets in.

Fall Work Ahead

Next week we’ll start preg-checking the cows to see who’s bred up and preconditioning calves before weaning the steers.

Both of the boys are coming home to help, which makes it feel like old times again.

You can take the ranch kid off the ranch, but fall work, gathering, preg-checking, weaning, and shipping bring them right back.

It’s one of our favorite times of year, second only to calving season.

We all like to see how everyone came through the summer… and that all the ear tags are home and accounted for.

"The beef was outstanding. Could not ask for better customer service. They contacted me before and after the shipment to ensure everything was to my satisfaction.

What a wonderful experience.

The beef was soooooo good. Definitely will be ordering again.”

From Our Ranch to Your Table

Al wanted me to add that he shared the last bag of Halloween candy with my dad and brothers on our trip. Just so you know. (We’re on bag number three, and still no trick-or-treaters at the ranch.)

Until next time, stay warm, keep that candy bowl full, and keep a little beef in your freezer for the soul.
