New Bundle, Last Calf, and One Last Week for Free Freezers
It Happened This Week
The last cow calved, a healthy little bull calf, so calving season is officially a wrap. The newborns are growing fast, and their moms are busy keeping them out of trouble.
Life out here runs on different priorities. We check the weather, track the heat, and make sure every animal has clean water and green grass.
This week we:
- ✔️ Changed pastures twice
- ✔️ Checked water tanks
- ✔️ Put out mineral
- ✔️ And made sure everyone stayed on the right side of the fence
This is a pasture of happy cows. They barely have to reach for a bite.
Hay is Home
We also hauled in the last of the hay for winter. A big job, but a satisfying one. We don’t need fancy, just enough. And now we’ve got it.
Pig Parade Update
The last of the pigs finished their organic curing this week. If you claimed a pork share, they’ll start parading your way next week!
What Happens on the Ranch, Stays on the Ranch
Three of our granddaughters stayed with us last week, ages 5, 7, and 9. While they were here, we:
- ✔️ Broke all the rules (ice cream for lunch, splashed in mud puddles, stayed up late)
- ✔️ Practiced pickup driving (not much to run into out here!)
- ✔️ Skipped hair brushing (but not tooth brushing)
Then we took them back to their parents!
