No Browning, No Fuss — Supper Was Ready When We Came In!
Monday was rainy here at T Bar J, and we spent the day packing beef and pork orders, getting boxes ready for UPS, and sending tracking numbers to our customers.
So before we got started that morning, I pulled out some T Bar J stew meat and put it straight into the slow cooker.
No browning. No extra skillet to wash. Just stew meat, onions, broth, and a few seasonings.
Then I went to work filling shipping boxes.
By the time Al and I came in at the end of the day, supper was ready. And the minute we opened the door, we could smell it!
And there's another little trick that made it even easier. I'll share that in a minute.
I've been visiting with quite a few of our customers since we opened our Summer 2027 beef reservations on Sunday. And something several of you mentioned made me smile.
You really enjoy our Tuesday recipes!
I love hearing that, because these aren't fancy meals. They're the kind of suppers we eat right here on the ranch, and I'm glad they're finding their way into your kitchens, too.
Slow Cooker Beef Tips & Gravy

An easy, hearty supper made with T Bar J stew meat.
Prep time: 10–15 minutes
Cook time: 6–8 hours on LOW
Serves: 4–6
Ingredients
- • 2 lbs T Bar J stew meat, thawed
- • 1 medium onion, sliced
- • 2 cups beef broth
- • 2 tablespoons Worcestershire sauce
- • 2 cloves garlic, minced
- • 1 teaspoon salt, or to taste
- • ½ teaspoon black pepper
- • 1 teaspoon dried thyme
- • 2 tablespoons cornstarch mixed with 2 tablespoons cold water (optional, for thicker gravy)

Directions
- 1. Place the thawed stew meat directly into your slow cooker. No need to brown it first!
- 2. Add the sliced onion, beef broth, Worcestershire sauce, garlic, salt, pepper, and thyme.
- 3. Cover and cook on LOW for 6–8 hours, until the beef is fork-tender.
- 4. If you prefer thicker gravy, stir in the cornstarch mixture and cook on HIGH for another 15–20 minutes.
- 5. Serve over rice, mashed potatoes, or buttered noodles.
We had ours over rice with broccoli and carrots on the side.
Amber's Little Rice Trick
Whenever I make rice, I always cook a double batch.
We eat half with supper, and I freeze the other half for another day.
So Monday evening, I didn't have to cook rice at all. I just pulled some out of the freezer, heated it up, and supper was on the table in no time.
It's a simple little habit, but when you've been busy all day, it's mighty handy!
Kitchen note: Cool leftover rice promptly, freeze it in meal-sized portions, and reheat until steaming hot.

Imagine Opening Your Freezer Next Summer...

And the best part?
You know exactly where that beef came from, who raised it, and how those cattle were cared for.
