Ready for Game Day
In my book, Cold is below zero. Really cold is -40. This week we had days that were cold and never got over zero. Can you imagine how thick the ice gets on the water tanks on those days?
Cozy up with a hot drink and I'll tell you. I could also tell you what I think of that Ground Hog that says we have 6 more weeks of winter. But I bet you can imagine that too.
Life on the Ranch
Water freezes easier in a fiberglass tank than it does in a black rubber tire tank. So I developed a new system this week for the heifer's fiberglass tank. Mostly because I got tired of chipping ice out.
We have a good frozen base in there, then I run the water when they are drinking. Turn it off and go back in the afternoon and run them some water again. They drink 2 times a day, and it is far easier on me.
The cows are good on their tire tank, it has a lid and a limited area to chip ice out of.
The steers got a bed of corn stalks by their windbreak, and came to breakfast the next morning with cornstalks sticking out from behind their ears, off their bellies and on top of their backs. They slept well. The cows are enjoying their windbreak we moved out for them.
We are 1 man down here since Al had foot surgery last week. Fritzie, the border collie, and I are in charge of keeping everyone fed, watered and the feed truck running.
Today was the first day it was above zero start to finish. Otherwise it has been mostly below zero all week. And we have over a foot of new snow.
All the trucks and tractor are plugged in.
Bale grazing is still working out real good. On the days it gets over zero I put out bales to get us through to the next "warm day".
The kittens are in the house. Remember the 5lbs of ground beef with 2 kittens offer? Well, they are still here.
Laying on a chair in the living room in the sun beats the cold shop.

Customer Review of the Week
Great beef
"The best beef around and wonderful people to order from."

New Bonus
We have Beef Fat.
All-Natural Beef Fat from our steers.
If you are wanting to make Tallow, this would work. Our customers have been asking for it and we worked with our butcher to arrange getting fat besides the organs, heart, liver and tongue, osso bucco and oxtail.
That will be an additional bonus with your Beef Share.
And don't forget we have 1/8 Beef Shares too, which is 50# of beef.
1/8 do not come with a brisket, and not included in the Free freezer offer, but everything else that is included in a 1/4, 1/2, or whole beef share, comes with an 1/8.

If you've been thinking about trying our All-Natural beef, now's the time! Stock up on ground beef and get a taste of what makes our beef shares so special.
Think it over and stay warm out there,
P.S. If you are watching the Super Bowl, I have included a link to the Montana Beef Council recipes for Game Day.
