STAMPEDE!!!
If last week was a rodeo, this week was a world championship.
Grab a cup of coffee, you won’t believe what happened. We bought a new bull… delivered our final Prime Rib… and spent half a day gathering lost steers across the countryside.
What’s Happening at the Ranch
Last Sunday, we brought home our new herd bull — a Tenet-certified bull with outstanding ultrasound scores for marbling and tenderness.
We don’t buy bulls to brag. We buy bulls every year to make your steak better.
But Tuesday night, something spooked the steers and that new bull so hard that we woke up Wednesday morning to steers everywhere.
- • Steers on the road
- • Steers a mile south
- • Steers two miles east
- • And our brand-new $9,000 bull… alone, confused, and nearly a mile west
He’d only been here three days. Didn’t know the ranch. Didn’t know where “home” was.
When I walked up to him… he came right to me. Thank goodness. We thought he was gone for good.
We led him back to the cow herd, then started gathering steers, three trips, all morning, following broken wire across pastures.
By the time we got the last ones home, they were so exhausted they lay right down and slept. They must have been scared to death to run that far, that fast, in the dark.
And then? Straight to Stillwater Packing to load beef and beef sticks. Paid our property taxes at the Courthouse. Bought new panels in Laurel to replace the gate they destroyed. And worked until dark to get it all built back.
But all ended well.
The steers were home.
No one was hurt.
The new bull was meeting his new family.
Taxes paid.
And a trailer full of beautiful beef back on the ranch, just in time for the holidays.
