The Box Dale Got. The BEEF You Could
Life on the Ranch
The week flew by — calves to check, beef to ship, gravel to haul… and a whole lot of life in between. And today is Friday the 13th. Let’s get you caught up
Calves, Colostrum & Hard Days
We lost a calf at the vet this week.
He didn’t get a strong enough start with colostrum and just wasn’t able to make it, even with help. That leaves two cows without calves, more than we like.
We’ve had good luck with twins this year and are still sitting at 100% calf crop, but losing any calf is hard. It never gets easier, even after all these years.
From Mud to Gravel
After hauling in steers through a sea of mud last week, we figured it was time for a change. Two big side-dumps of gravel were delivered, so of course, it hasn’t rained since. That’s the way it goes sometimes. But we’ll be ready the next time the clouds roll in.
Kieran Crushes It in Oklahoma
If you’ve been following along, you know we sponsor a hammer thrower named Kieran McKeag. This weekend he went to a big throws event in Oklahoma — and came home with two wins, a personal best, and an automatic qualifier for the U.S. Championships later this summer. He’s now ranked #25 in the world, and we couldn’t be prouder of his grit, discipline, and drive. He's our guy, help us cheer him on!
Fueled by T Bar J Beef, of course.
Kieran, fueled by T Bar J beef, throwing his way to a new personal best in Oklahoma this weekend.
🎁 Giveaway Box Delivered to Illinois!
Dale and Mary — our latest Ground Beef Giveaway winners — received their box this week (even if the UPS driver accidentally dropped it at the neighbor’s first!). Dale and I have talked three times on the phone this week— to say how excited they were, I called to tell them I shipped their box, they called to let me know they tried the honey first, and kept some ground beef out for supper. Dale has already been telling his friends to sign up for this month’s giveaway, and we couldn’t be happier to welcome them to the T Bar J family.
Dale and Mary’s giveaway box — 10 lbs of ground beef, ranch honey, and a T Bar J hat. Straight from Montana to their kitchen in Illinois.
All Heifers Calved — and We’re Almost There
The last heifer had her calf, and we’ve only got 7 cows left to go. We’re nearly through calving season, with 47 heifers and 43 bull calves so far.
We’ve got babies tucked into the tall grass — sometimes you have to squint to spot them. That’s how we like it. Dotty the red heifer is doing great.
Sometimes the best kind of quiet is the kind where you can barely see the calf in the tall grass.
Dotty looking picture-perfect

Father’s Day Thoughts
With Father’s Day coming Sunday, we just want to tip our hats to the dads out there — and to everyone who steps into that role with love and quiet strength. Especially, the dads in our family: Al, Zach, Eb and my Dad, who is going to be 90 next month.
If there’s a grill warming up at your house this weekend, we hope it’s got something tasty on it, like Beef, and that you’ve got a dad, husband, grandfather, or friend to share it with.
