The Steers Bawled, The Moms Hollered, We Survived

It’s been a full week here at the T Bar J, the kind that reminds us why ranch life takes grit, heart, and a good sense of humor.

What's Happening at the Ranch

After all the bawling settled from weaning day (the steers calling for their moms, and their moms calling right back), we moved the main herd south to fresh fall pasture.

We kept back 20 heifers for replacements, future mommas in training. They’re still with their mothers and not upset at all.

Last year’s replacement heifers are wondering what all the fuss was about. No calf to wean = no drama for them.

The bulls? They’re relieved the noise is over so they can get back to their very serious job of napping.

Meanwhile, the steers at home are settling into the corrals, discovering their new developer pellets, and making new friends. Each day, they look a little less lost and a little more content.

This week also included fixing and preparing for winter, everything from the little red Dodge to Al’s feet, plus getting enough fuel in our tanks to run the tractor and pickups through the cold months.

We also shipped out the first two Prime Ribs from our drawing. These customers already had their deposits in for next summer’s beef shares.

Many of you saw our Christmas-themed email and the launch of the new Holiday Steak Box. I turned The Night Before Christmas into a T Bar J Ranch story, and it was such a joy to write.
