What's for Supper this Valentine's Day?
Happy Valentine's Day
Â

Â
Nothing beats a new bed of corn stalks and some sun. Â The steers are happy it quit snowing. Â We were hoping it would continue, but it looks like Valentine's Day will be a snowy one.
Life on the Ranch
First, I have to say we are grateful for all our blessings and make sure they are cared for. Â But this last week was a test. Â
Â
We got over a foot of snow along with some wind to drift it.  It was below 0 almost every morning  We even saw -26, -19, -15 and 2 days it never got over 0.
Â
Al had to come out and help. Â Remember he had surgery the end of January on his foot? The pickup got drifted in the Quanset and I couldn't get the feed truck out. Â We couldn't get to the cows or the heifers with the truck and he had to plow out to them with the tractor. Â The hay bales were drifted in in the hay yard. Â
Â
You can't hardly see even the top of the grass, so we are feeding full ration to the cattle. Taking them dinner costs about $300/day.
Â
But then,
We have a full hay yard with grass and alfalfa hay. Â
We have plenty of windbreak for all the cattle.
We have plenty of water that runs right to the cows, heifers and steers. Â We only have to chop the ice.
We have a front-wheel assist tractor and have no trouble getting around.
We have a warm house.
We have plenty to eat.
We have warm coveralls, boots, hats, and gloves to wear.
We have lots to be thankful for, I am not complaining.
Â
But I am counting the days till May!!!
Â

Fritzie is counting the days till May too.
Welcome to the T Bar J Ranch Roundup
Glad you are here. Â I wish you were in the feed truck with me this week. Â Sam, our resident Bald Eagle, had some friends over. Â
Â
One morning, 4 Bald Eagles were between the house and the hay yard in our calving pasture. Â Probably hunting for rabbits or prairie birds we have called "huns", that are a partridge.
Â
They weren't close enough for a picture, but I sure wish you could be here and see them fly.
What's for Supper?
Today we had:
Meatloaf,
Mashed Potatoes and Gravy,
Corn,
Lettuce salad,
and for Dessert:
Angel Food Cake with Pistachio pudding on top.
Â
There is a whole lot you can make with Ground Beef, and ours is the best.
Â
You should try ground beef that is ground up beef with no additives, all natural and from 1 animal. Â You will enjoy the difference.
Â
We can send you some next week if you want.
Â
I want to try 10 lbs of Premium Ground Beef
I want to Stock up with 20 lbs of Ground Beef
Â

Â
Our commute to work this week. Â That is the hay yard from the "road" to the cows.
Stocking up
So stocking up is a good thing to do for your family. Â We are sure glad we have most of a year's supply of hay saved up for our herd. Â We do not want to be caught in weather like this without feed for them.
Â
You don't want to be caught without food for your family, so think about having a supply on hand. Â
Â
We can send you a share of beef, and ours comes with a freezer. You will have lots of choices on what's for supper.

We are all set for the next week of snow they are predicting. Fed the cows bales for 3 days this afternoon, their water tanks are in good shape, their mineral feeders are full too for 3 days and they have their shelter with the wind breaks.
Â
We will check on on them every day as usual, break ice and look them over  In 3 days we will put out more bales to get them through the blast of cold air they say is coming by. Â
Â
The steers we feed twice a day since they get their all-natural pellets. Â They eat all the grass hay they want.
