Who Gets the Brisket?
Let's get going on this week in the T Bar J corner of the world. We are still putting the "y" on last week's doozy of a week! Get something to drink and sit a minute with us.
Life on the Ranch:
Since last week was GSWS
Gathering, Sorting, Weaning and Shipping.
This week was just WM.
Weaning and Moving.
The steer calves are weaning pretty good. Quite bawling and are cleaning up their developer pellets. We let them out into a bigger pen and they seem to be sticking together and not crawling through the fence. They need room to run and stretch out and rest.
The cows and bulls are moved out and happy on vacation without all the calves along. Only the heifer calves we are keeping as replacements are with them and still paired up with their moms.
The bulls especially are ready to lay on the couch, eat chips and watch football. This is about as close as they get to that.
Veteran's Day Donation:
All handled and hopefully filling the freezers of retired Veterans and active Military families. Keep them in your thoughts.
AND THE WINNER IS..... Joy T. Congratulations!!
She has won the Brisket we are giving away.
We were having such fun with the drawings, I put all the names in and Al draws, that we thought a 3rd drawing was in order. We have a 5# Brisket that will be a smoking delight. So that is what we drew for this week.
I didn't think of it, but I put the wives names in if you were a couple. It seems like we picked all women, but that is just how that went. I am sure the husbands will be the ones cooking and thank you for that guys.
How do you get in the drawing?
Well they are for the folks that decide they needed a share of beef in June or July, and make their deposit. I am keeping all the names in the jar in case we decide to do another drawing. So if you decide on a share now, you are in for drawings in the future.
We raise exceptional beef. But you knew that. Taking care of the land and our cattle in a natural way, produces some of the best meat you will ever taste. Mostly because it is free of anything extra:
- No implants, hormones, antibiotics for the cattle,
- No fertilizer, herbicides, pesticides for the land.
That is what we have to offer you.
Here are the links for 1/4, 1/2, and whole beef shares.
As a rough guide,
- 1/4 share is about 100 meals,
- 1/2 share 200 meals,
- whole beef about 400 meals, or a year of meals.
Deciding on how often you have meals centered around beef will help you chose which suits you better. Or call and we can talk over what you need.

The Legacy pricing shares do not have a freezer. The other share deposits do.

Breaking News on the T-J:
We are partnering with Kieran McKeag.
He is a Track and Field athlete trying to make the U.S. Team and get to the World Championships and the Olympics. He is a thrower, Hammer in particular. I can throw a hammer, but it usually involves fencing or fixing the corrals! This is different.
I have included a paragraph about Kieran and his wife Hailey. I hope you read about them. We will be following along as he competes in his event, Hammer Throw. If you have ever known someone in that competes at that level of athletics, it is pretty fun to follow along and cheer for the hometown guy.
This is our guy, the T-J guy. Stay tuned and see what happens.
Hello from Kieran:
I was born in a small town in southern Minnesota and grew up south of the twin cities. I graduated from Apple Valley High School and attended the University of Minnesota on an athletic scholarship, competing for the track and field team and studying wildlife biology and kinesiology. I met my wife Hailey, who is a Colstrip/Huntley Project, MT native, there as she was also attending school on a track and field scholarship throwing the javelin. We both did four years and obtained our undergraduate degrees there - myself in 2020 and she in 2021.
When I finished my undergraduate studies, I got a full athletic scholarship from the University of Alabama (Roll Tide!) to pursue my Master's of Science in Biology where I completed my thesis on Alabama's black bears in 2022 whilst finishing my two years of NCAA eligibility. I ended my NCAA career as a four time NCAA All-American, two time team captain, and one time U23 USA Track and Field team member. My then girlfriend, now wife, also received an athletic scholarship from Alabama to continue throwing the javelin and pursue a second degree which she finished in 2023.
While she was finishing her eligibility and schooling in 2023, I decided to give the professional/post-collegiate athlete life a shot, and at the same time worked full time using my animal genetics and programming background to pursue a career accelerating and advancing how we catch, diagnose, and treat cancer; which I still do now.
Upon Hailey finishing school in Tuscaloosa, we traveled across the country back to her home state so that she could begin nursing school at Montana State through the Montana State nursing program on the MSU-Billings satellite campus. We lived at her parent's property east of Billings in Ballantine, MT while she was going to school to save some money for our future housing and wedding earlier this year. This threw a wrench in my hammer training as there is not a hammer throwing circle and cage within several hours of Ballantine, so we took matters into our own hands and built one in one of my in-laws' pastures!
Hailey finished nursing school this summer and got a great job in Livingston where we currently live. I am an assistant coach at Montana State for the track and field team in addition to my full time job working with cancer DNA and training full time. The professional track and field life is difficult as only the best of the best make good enough money to do it full-time. Many of us scrape by if we do not also have a job in addition to what we do. Partnerships and sponsorships like the one Allen and Amber at T Bar J Ranch are being so gracious for bringing me onto, help immensely. Something important to Hailey and I is knowing where our food comes from, what those animals are eating, and that they are living ethical and sustainable lives. I can't think of a better, local brand to represent than T Bar J Ranch for these reasons. What food high performance athletes are using to fuel their bodies can make or break outcomes. I am so grateful and blessed to be fueling my training for the upcoming 2025 World Championships and 2028 Olympics with beef from T Bar J Ranch!
Go Kieran. We are behind you.
